Synthetics

Nylon, Polyester, and polypropylene are man-made synthetic fibers and are the most common materials found in machine made rugs. They try to mimic the characteristics of natural fibers.  Viscose is a semi-synthetic fiber that gives a silky feel and look.

Why we love it: Easy to clean, kid and dog friendly, can be used in damp environments (with the exception of viscose which is not often the case -- some specially treated viscose is easier to care for).

Things to consider: Doesn’t always feel luxurious, weight of the product can be important (lighter weight = less material = rug may not lay flat), wear quicker than natural fibers

Best for: high-traffic and sunny areas (although sun will eventually fade any material), sometimes less expensive options, bathrooms and more damp areas
