Wool

One of the most common and definitely the material most traditionally used in rug making. Wool is prized for its durability and softness.  This softness is not only in feel but in look.

Why we love it: Feels cozy underfoot, excellent insulating properties, very durable and strong, longevity, retains its value (in hand knotted rugs).

Things to consider: Shedding may occur but will lessen with time, various grades of wool (and weave) affect cost, not good for very humid spaces.

Best for: Living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, high-traffic areas
